Born in Washington, DC, trained in music and dance at the Irish World Academy, University of Limerick, in modern dance at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, and in acting at American Conservatory Theater, Nicholas is a rare true triple threat.
His acting credits range from Shakespeare to new plays to classic musicals, at venues such as Arena Stage, American Conservatory Theater, McCarter Theatre Center, Shakespeare Theatre Company, and Signature Theatre.
His concert appearances include the New Amsterdam Theatre (Broadway), Theatre Royal, Drury Lane (West End), Radio City Music Hall, Hong Kong Lyric Theatre, Qantas Arena (Sydney), and the Espaço das Américas (São Paulo).
He has trained extensively in classic musical theater dance styles, acting as a demonstrator for the Verdon Fosse Legacy and selected for invitation-only classes with Tony Award®-winning director-choreographer Kathleen Marshall. A champion Irish dancer, some of his earliest performances were with international tours of Riverdance and Ragús. Nicholas's latest choreography project was the Masquers Playhouse production of As You Like It. Previously he was the associate choreographer for the world tour of GRAMMY®-nominee Celtic Woman.
"The cast aces the show's comedy … Nicholas Yenson is a riot as Model Ancestor, a Yee family ancestor whose mincing 21st-century mannerisms belie his antique garb."
"The entire company—including Nicholas Yenson, a comic whirlwind in a wide-ranging variety of supporting roles—keep transitions between characters, locations, and genres sharp."
"Many of the biggest laughs of the evening come from Nicholas Yenson's portrayal of the fool Touchstone. Naturally, a fool gets some of the best lines and funniest bit of business, but Yenson delivers them with such terrific comic timing and commitment … that we can't help but love him."
"Nicholas Yenson takes on the challenging role of Antietam as he responds to the tragic incidents as they happen and refelects upon them as an old man. Yenson excels in the role, garnering the audience's sympathy as a confused youth trapped in horrific circumstances."
- Maya Philips, Jul 5 2013
"The highlight of the night is the astonishing
dancing of young Nicholas Yenson."
- Daniel Gewertz, Dec 15 2006
"Nicholas Yenson is mortifying to dance next to. Mr. Yenson has the grace of a thoroughbred."
